Last Thursday’s fodder motion passed by our elected representatives in the Dail must not just become a Public Relations exercise by our politician’s stated The Irish Natura and Hill Farmers Association (INHFA) president Colm O’Donnell.
“All Oireachtas members have dragged their heels on the National Fodder Crisis by not intervening sooner on behalf of their affected constituents”, claimed O’Donnell. The motion has backed the INHFA proposals to introduce a meal voucher scheme, issue overdue balancing payments for Glas and the Sheep Welfare scheme, a state hardship fund for affected farmers and a temporary halt to cross compliance inspections and farm audits.
“This Dail motion will test the effectiveness or not of our national legislators to introduce emergency measures to deal with what has eventually been upgraded to a national crisis”, continued O’Donnell.
Concluding, the farm leader said that” the measures approved in the Dail motion must be put in place immediately and without more red tape which seen the lack of uptake by affected farmers to date”.
