Changes made to the Farm Assist Program over the last two years has seen farmers that previously qualified no longer getting assistance. This has caused serious financial hardship for these families who because of their remote rural location have no option of employment or other ways of improving their position. A Farm assist Program needs to support farm family income and also ensure it doesn’t penalise farmers that improve themselves. It also needs to be flexible enough to take account of the variance in the market place.
